INEC Adjourns Adamawa Results Collation As Thugs Wreck Havoc With Local Bombs

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has adjourned the collation of results in Adamawa State till today, March 20.

The state collation officer, Professor Muhammad Lamin Mele, made this known while addressing newsmen at the state collation office in Yola, the state capital.

He said the collation of results was suspended amid tension following contention over the result of the Fufore Local Government Area.

Mele had announced results from 20 out of 21 local government areas before disagreement ensued among party agents over the authenticity of the result from Fufore LGA.

The APC agent, Usman Mauludu, alleged that the result received from Fufore had been tampered with.

The Resident Electoral Officer, Yunus Hudu, then adjourned the exercise until 12 noon today despite protest from the PDP agents led by former Minister of State for Health, Aliyu Idi Hong, who insisted that the collation must continue.

Security agents fired shots and tear gas to disperse stick-wielding thugs who had gathered near the collation center, harassing motorists and vandalizing cars.

The miscreants surrounded the INEC Collation Centre and refused anyone entry into or exit from the facility around 2 am on Monday as politicians, journalists, INEC staff, and others were locked inside.

It took the combined effort of the army, police, and other security agencies for some people to leave the venue.
