Adamawa is located in the North-East zone. It shares borders with Borno State to the northwest, Gombe State to the west, and Taraba State to the southwest. Its eastern border forms part of Nigeria’s international boundary with the Republic of Cameroon.

Formerly part of Gongola State, Adamawa has seen a transition of power through several key figures:
