Fintiri Nominates Three Commissioners To Replace Atiku’s Son, Others

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has submitted three names to the Adamawa State House of Assembly for appointment as commissioners, days after the resignation of the State Commissioner for Works & Energy Development, Adamu Atiku Abubakar.

Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stepped down from office after reportedly declining to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), unlike several of his colleagues who aligned with the governor’s political direction.

The nominees forwarded to the Assembly are: Sali Idris (Maiha LGA); Muhammed Suleiman (Mubi North LGA); Chubado Mohammed (Jada LGA).

Speaker Bathiya Wesley directed the Clerk of the House to notify the nominees to appear for screening with their curriculum vitae on Monday, March 9, 2026.

Abubakar was said to be one of three commissioners who opposed switching parties. The others reportedly include the Commissioners for Livestock Development and Justice, Tijjani Maksha and Afraimu Jingi.

While Abubakar’s resignation has been confirmed, the submission of fresh nominees suggests that the remaining commissioners may have either resigned or vacated their positions.
