Suspected Boko Haram Fighters Attack Sheweri, Kirchinga

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have launched a fresh offensive in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, reportedly overrunning the towns of Sheweri and Kirchinga.

Naija News reports that the attack, which occurred in the early hours, forced residents to flee into nearby bushes, with several people feared dead as security forces struggled to contain the violence.

Local sources who spoke with Sahara Reporters said heavily armed insurgents stormed Sheweri at dawn, setting buildings on fire and shooting sporadically to scare residents.

As of the time of filing this report, large parts of the community were said to be engulfed in flames, with villagers fleeing for safety.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes marked by smoke and gunshots as civilians ran for cover.

The attackers reportedly extended their assault to Kirchinga market, where troops of the Nigerian military attempted to repel them.

Sources said fierce gunfire erupted at the busy market as soldiers confronted the insurgents.

However, the attackers allegedly overpowered the troops, forcing them to retreat after intense exchanges.

Witnesses described “scenes of smoke, gunshots, and devastation” as the insurgents tightened their grip on both communities.

The double assault signals a renewed escalation of Boko Haram activities in Adamawa State, underscoring ongoing security challenges in the North-East.

Kirchinga is the hometown of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
