Bayern Munich have knocked out French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain to qualify for the Quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League campaign.

Bayern Munich hosted PSG at Allianz Arena on Wednesday night for the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 after defeating the French side 1-0 in the first leg.

In Germany, Bayern outplayed the star-studded French side to the extent that Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Sadio Mane scored a header each in the second half which were disallowed after VAR reviews.

The German side took that momentum to the second half as Choupo-Moting finally got a legitimate goal against his former club in the 61st minute.

Afterward, PSG’s expensive frontline led by Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe continued to push for a goal but could not crack the heavily organized wall of the Bayern side.

To make things more difficult, Bayern got the second goal via second-half substitute Serge Gnabry in the 89th minute. The goal put the nail in the coffin as PSG crashed out of the competition 3-0 on aggregate.

With PSG having been eliminated at this level in five of their previous seven seasons, the Ligue 1 champions and their under-fire head coach Christophe Galtier once again failed spectacularly.

Italian Serie A side, AC Milan visited Tottenham Hotspur for the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 with a one-goal advantage thanks to their 1-0 win at San Siro in the first leg.

During the second leg at Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Wednesday night, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg tested AC Milan keeper Mike Maignan with a powerful second-half shot and Harry Kane headed wide as Spurs failed to mount sustained pressure on the Italian defense.

To make matters worse, late in the game, defender Cristian Romero received a second yellow card for a careless challenge on Theo Hernandez and was sent off. Spurs paid the price for yet another mediocre start that allowed Milan to become at ease with their task.

A late Kane header was brilliantly kept out by Maignan before Divock Origi struck the post for the visitors as the game ended 0-0 which was enough for Milan to kick out Spurs 1-0 on aggregate. Their season is now resting on the battle for a top-four place in the Premier League.

The Champions League quarter-finals draw will take place in Nyon, Switzerland on March 17, 2023.
