Chelsea have overcome a first-leg 1-0 deficit in favour of Borussia Dortmund to advance to the Champions League quarter-finals.

After 43 minutes, Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling scored a long-awaited goal to bring the Premier League side back to the tie. The English forward beat Dortmund goalkeeper Alexander Meyer with a shot he almost missed.

After a series of missed opportunities to take charge of the tie, the VAR came to Chelsea’s rescue by confirming that Dortmund’s Marius Wolf handed the ball in the penalty box.

Kai Havertz who stepped up to take the spot-kick missed the first penalty attempt which hit the post. Fortunately for him, the referee ordered a re-take due to encroachment in the build-up.

This time, Havertz was perfect, as Chelsea moved to the round of eight with a hard-fought 2-1 aggregate win at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

Benfica Join Chelsea In The Next Round

Meanwhile, Goncalo Ramos scored twice to help Benfica upset Club Bruges with ease and move on to the Champions League quarterfinals.

Rafa Silva gave the home team the advantage after the first leg, which they had won 2-0.

In the second-leg, Ramos scored twice to make it 4-0 overall.

Before Joao Mario’s penalty and David Neres’ goal put the game away, Bjorn Meijer scored an unbelievable consolation goal.

The tie between Benfica and Club Brugge ended 7-1 on aggregate in favor of the Portuguese side.

For the second season in a row, Benfica have reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League, but they have never gone farther than that.
