Former Ebonyi Governor, Egwu Loses Third Term Senate Bid

A former Governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu, has suffered defeat in the Ebonyi North Senatorial election held on Saturday.

Egwu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and incumbent Senator, lost his bid to return to the Senate for a third term.

The former governor lost the election to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, according to the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

INEC Returning Officer for the election, Professor Nwogo Ajuka Obasi, declared that Nwebonyi polled 65,863 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Ejiofor Vincent Chukwu of the Labour Party scored 42,283 to emerge second.

Obasi, at the INEC Office in Abakaliki Local Government on Sunday night, added that Egwu of the PDP came a distant third with 26,569 votes.
