History has shown that Kwara State has followed a trend in the Nigerian elections since 1999.

It has been observed that from 1999 till the present date, all the candidates that won in Kwara State emerged overall winners of the presidential elections.

In 1999 it was former President Olusegun Obasanjo who won on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

2003 – Again, Chief Obasanjo won re-election in the year still on the platform of the PDP.

2011 – This year, Bayelsa State-man Goodluck Ebele Jonathan won the presidential election on the platform of PDP.

2019 – This year, the political tide changed as President Muhammadu Buhari emerged winner of the general polls on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports that Kwara State is currently under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, a chieftain of the ruling APC.

Would the reported trend in Kwara State change in the 2023 general elections? We will all know in the next few hours as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues with the declaration of results from the 2023 presidential election held on Saturday, February 25th.
