Labour Party Disowns Kano Gov Candidate Seen With Tinubu, APC

The Kano State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has disowned Bashir Ishak-Bashir, who was seen with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and some party stakeholders earlier.

Bashir caused stirs earlier when reports emerged that he might have abandoned his governorship ambition under the umbrella of the Labour Party to support Tinubu and the APC in the coming election.

“I am in high-level discussion with the leadership of the APC at the national level on how we can support the party to win the forthcoming general elections.

“I will soon get across to you our final position on the matter,” the politician told reporters earlier.

Reacting, however, the Labour Party Chairman in Kano State, Alhaji Mohammed Raji, said Bashir’s claims are false as he was never the LP governorship candidate.

Speaking at a news conference on Monday in Kano, Raji said Bashir’s name has never been on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal as LP’s governorship standard bearer in Kano State.

“He came to the party alone and left alone,” Raji said, adding that the party’s structure remained intact with all its Senatorial, House of Representatives and State Assembly candidates contesting in the forthcoming general elections.

Raji, however, admitted there were lingering issues in the party which had “caused disunity within the rank and file of members of the party.”

According to him, some wrong elements had tried to divert the party’s attention and threatened to defect.

“We are strongly advising such category of people to know that we the ‘Obedients’ are fully in support of Obi-Dati movement hundred per cent in Kano state,” the PUNCH quoted the politician.

A source in the party also told the news platform that Raji’s name had been forwarded to INEC as the LP gubernatorial candidate in Kano State.
