Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has faulted reports making the rounds that the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, was embarrassed and stoned in the Gashua Local Government Area of the State.

Reports had emerged earlier that some supporters of Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, had disrupted and stoned Governor Buni at an event organised to celebrate the ruling of the Supreme Court, which named the Senate President as the authentic senatorial candidate of the ruling APC for Yobe North in the National Assembly election.

Naija News learnt that Governor Buni had stood up at the event doubled as the APC’s zonal campaign rally for the Yobe North district to deliver his speech when the angry supporters, who were cheering Lawan, began to chant slogans of rejection; “bwamayi bwamayi bwamaso,” – meaning “we don’t want you”.

Reacting, however, to the said attack on the Governor, APC Campaign Council in the state said there was no such event as reported in the media.

Speaking at a press conference in Damaturu, the state capital, the Campaign Director-General (DG), Sen. Mohammed Hassan, said: “there was nothing like stoning as reported by a section of the media.

“I can tell you that the turnout at the rally was unprecedented, and people from all over came to support the party, our governor and his achievements.”

Also speaking, Mamman Mohammed, Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to Buni, stated that he needed to respond to the “false, alarming and precarious report to avoid misleading the general public”.
