Presnel Kimpembe, a defender for Paris Saint Germain, apologized to the team’s travelling fans over a loudspeaker after their 3-1 Ligue 1 defeat to Monaco on Saturday.

In the absence of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Marco Verratti, PSG has lost two straight games.

Wissam Ben Yedder contributed to Monaco’s first goal by Aleksandr Golovin and added two more goals for a convincing victory.

A less star-studded PSG side was down 2-0 after 18 minutes. Warren Zaire-Emery, 16, was able to get one back, but Ben Yedder’s 19th goal of the season clinched the victory for the hosts.

PSG, the league’s top team right now, are still in the lead by seven points above Monaco, who moved up to second after their victory.

After Marseille ousted PSG from the French Cup on Wednesday and Monaco defeated them in the league on Saturday, PSG has now lost three of their last seven league games in 2023.

“On the ground, it’s nonsense, we know. The only thing I can say is to thank you for coming. Now, don’t let us go, we still need you,” Presnel Kimpembe told the fans after their 3-1 defeat to Monaco on Saturday. “We will remobilize in the locker room, do things properly and we will get moving on Tuesday.”

The opening leg of the French club’s Champions League match against Bayern will take place on Tuesday at the Parc des Princes. The kickoff time is 21:00.
