Nigerian football star, Victor Osimhen has stressed that he wishes to win the prestigious UEFA Champions League with his Italian club, Napoli.

Victor Osimhen, 24, is currently the highest goalscorer in the Italian Serie A. He scored his 16th league goal of the season on Sunday after scoring two goals in Napoli’s 3-0 win over Spezia.

As the Nigerian international is having superb form so far this season, his club is enjoying an unprecedented run in the Serie A and the Champions League.

So far this season, Napoli have won 18, drawn 2, and lost 1 of their 21 league games. They presently lead the standings by 13 points and are on track to win the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years.

Victor Osimhen joined Luis Vinicio (1955–1956), Edinson Cavani (2012), and Gonzalo Higuain (2015) as Napoli players with 16 goals in their first 21 Serie A games of the season.

The Napoli striker has reportedly declared his desire to lift the Champions League trophy with Napoli, according to Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.

According to the Italian publication, Osimhen told Azzurri president Aurelio De Laurentiis of his desire to win the European title at their initial meeting before signing the contract that currently ties him to the club until 2025.

“I want to win the Champions League,” Osimhen reportedly told De Laurentiis.

This season looks like the ideal season for the in-form Osimhen to help Napoli win the Champions League.

Naija News recalls that the Italian side won all six of their games to finish first in their Champions League group stage with 15 points.

They are currently preparing for their Round of 16 match against Eintracht Frankfurt on February 21. Once they win the two-legged encounter, they will be two steps away from the Champions League final.

Recently, the club’s manager Luciano Spalletti acknowledged that the team has the mentality to win the Champions League and had informed his players that they had every intention of competing for the trophy.

The coach added; “There are moments in life when you achieve results and then you can either stick or twist. We have no doubts about that, we have made our decision to gamble for double, going to attack every game and trying to achieve something for the love of these fans who were all praying for us today. We must be proud of the love Neapolitans have for us and translate that onto the pitch.”
