Matawalle Suspends APC Campaign In Zamfara

Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, has reportedly directed the suspension of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign activities in the state.

The campaign event, Naija News learnt, has now been scheduled to hold on the 18th of January 2023 for yet-to-be-revealed reasons.

A statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday said the party in the State said its campaign officials have decided to take a break, saying that the ruling party has been campaigning for the restoration of peace in the State.

“I have already made a promise that in my second tenure, I will restore peace in Zamfara State”, Matawalle was quoted saying.

Governor Matawalle reportedly stated this earlier at the flag-off of his campaign at Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of the State last week, Tuesday 27th December 2023.

Recall that Governor Matawalle has appointed the former Governor of the State, Abdulaziz Yari as his campaign coordinator in the State.

However, the former Governor has appealed to the residents of the State, stressing that the insecurity situation in the state would be addressed if Matawalle returns to power.

Meanwhile, APC presidential campaign council from Borno State, Zanna Bukar Ali has resigned from the position.

Naija News reports that Bukar who is a member of the campaign council under the directorate of youth mobilization said he can no longer be a part of the council due to a conflict of interest.

The Borno politician in a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Presidential Campaign Council of the APC, James Faleke stressed that he is withdrawing from all APC Presidential Support Groups, and all other APC Support Groups that are campaigning for the party’s candidate, Bola Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima.

According to him, he has to put national interest above personal interest adding that the inability of the APC to present credible candidates for the election informed his decision to resign.

He wrote in the letter: “My resignation applies to all other APC Presidential Support Groups, and all other APC Support Groups that is campaigning for His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Kashim Shettima ticket.

“I have been a loyal party member from 2015 to date, with numerous contributions to the party, especially in the 2019 presidential campaigns.

“I am grateful to my former party and principal for my appointment as a member of the Committee, but I believe that national interest supersedes my personal interest.”
