For the first time in ten months, Paris Saint Germain (PSG) suffered a defeat in the Ligue 1 on Sunday night thanks to in-form Lens team.

So far in the 2022-2023 season, second-placed Lens have only lost once in their 17 Ligue 1 games, and they are currently only four points away from star-studded league leaders PSG.

Lois Openda scored one goal and assisted another to earn coach Franck Haise and his team a stunning victory.

In addition to Lionel Messi, who is yet to return to the team since winning the World Cup for Argentina on December 18, PSG was missing Neymar, who was suspended after receiving a red card on Wednesday.

During the game, Lens took the lead in the first five minutes after Przemyslaw Frankowski volleyed the ball into an empty net following Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s rebound.

Less than three minutes after, Hugo Ekitike scored the equalizer for PSG, but in the 28th minute, Openda gave Lens the lead once more by edging around defender Marquinhos and putting a shot past Donnarumma into the bottom corner.

Despite Kylian Mbappe playing the entire game, the club from northern France managed to hold on for a significant victory. Alexis Claude-Maurice added a third goal two minutes into the second half.

With the 3-1 win over PSG, Lens has now won six of their last eight league games and all nine of their home games this season. Lens drew with Nice last week on their first game back after the World Cup break.

The last time PSG lost a game before losing to Lens was on March 20, 2022. It was a 3-0 loss to Monaco, a defeat they suffered ten days after Real Madrid knocked them out of the Champions League.
