Fire Guts Mosque, Valuable Properties In Kwara

A fire incident has been reported at the Computer Department of the Federal College of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State.

The inferno Naija News learnt destroyed valuable properties including over 100 computers provisioned for use for students in the department.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, the Provost of the college, Dr Suleiman Balarabe, revealed that the fire started around 9:00 am on Saturday when staff were not at work.

Balarabe said Firefighters struggled to put off the fire which started from an outlet powering the Uninterruptible Power Source (UPS).

According to him, it had been a standing order in the college that all electrical appliances must be switched off after working hours, assuring that the computers would be replaced.

The provosts, however, said measures had been taken to prevent re-occurrence. He said, “I will also bring out some computers previously given to the college by TETFund and provide a temporary place for usage to enable students to continue academic activities pending the repairs of the burnt building.

“I must sincerely thank the effort of ABU Kongo and the Kaduna State Fire Service personnel who came to our rescue immediately when the fire started.”

Meanwhile, no fewer than fourteen people were reportedly kidnapped by some bandit terrorist in Kaduna State on Saturday.

Naija News learnt the terrorists invaded Iri Station, Idon Ward of Kajuru Local Government Area of the state in the wee hour of Saturday and whisked away some residents to an unknown location.

The incident was confirmed to newsmen by the Supervisory Councillor of Admin, Finance and Health of the Council, Bala Jonathan.

The government official revealed the identity of the victims as follows: Abdullahi, Yakubu Isah, Samson Julius, Angelina Julius, Pasema Daniel, Junior, Bobo Julius, Saratu Mohammed, Asenath Sunday, Confidence Jerry, Barnaki Sunday, Moses Kenneth, Danladi Goma and Ummi Jibrin.

“These are the names of abducted persons in Iri Station which we have discovered for now. The sad event happened in the early hours of today, June 4, 2022,” Jonathan told The PUNCH.
