Shehu Sani Reacts As Tinubu Meets UAE Leadership Over Visa Ban, Others

Former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has said other Governors that defected from the platform of the party that got them elected to other parties face being sacked from office.

Sani said this on Tuesday while reacting to the court order that sacked Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi and his Deputy, Dr. Eric Kelechi Igwe from office.

Naija News had earlier reported that the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, sacked Umahi and Igwe, for dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

Delivering judgement on Tuesday, Justice Inyang Ekwo ordered Umahi and his Deputy to immediately vacate their officer, asking INEC to replace them with a candidate from PDP.

He held that the total number of 393, 042 votes Umahi secured during the March 9, 2019 governorship election in Ebonyi state, belonged to the PDP and cannot be transferred to the APC.

Ekwo said that following the outcome of the governorship election, the office of the governor and deputy governor in Ebonyi state, “belong to the Plaintiff and no other political party”.

He insisted that there is no constitutional provision that made the ballot transferrable from one party to the other.

Reacting, Sani took to his Twitter page where he wrote: “The Court sacking of Ebonyi Governor will affect other serving Governors that defected.”

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has named Iduma Igariwe and Fred Udogwu as its nominees for Governor and Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State respectively.

Naija News reports that the National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, made this known at a media briefing on Tuesday evening.

Ayu disclosed that the opposition PDP has submitted the names of its nominees to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the sack of Governor Dave Umahi and his deputy, and Eric Kelechi Igwe.
