The Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has promised that the force will ensure those behind the sexual assault and mutilation of the late 22-year-old University of Benin lady are arrested and prosecuted.

Naija News reported earlier that Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100-level Microbiology student of UNIBEN was ganged raped by yet to be identified individuals while she was reading in a branch of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, in Benin.

Reacting to the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, in a statement on Monday, ordered a thorough investigation into the matter with the assurance that the perpetrators of the evil act will be fetched out dealt with according to the law.

The IGP stated, “As part of deliberate and concerted efforts by the Nigeria Police High Command to unravel the circumstances surrounding the brutal attack and unfortunate death of Miss Vera Uwaila Omosuwa in Benin, Edo State, the IGP commiserates with the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Police has pleaded with the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, that the judgement by an Abuja High Court, of Maryam Sanda, who killed her husband Bilyaminu Bello, be upheld.

In a brief argument filed in response to the appeal filed by Sanda’s legal team led by Joe Kyari Gadzama (SAN), the police opined that the trial court was right in finding Sanda guilty of willfully murdering her husband in cold blood.
