COVID-19: Police Arrests Masquerade In Ogun State For Defying Lockdown Order
A masquerade, ‘Egungun’ in the Yoruba language has been arrested in Ogun State for paying a deaf ear to the earlier order of total lockdown issued by Governor of the State, Dapo Abiodun.
Naija News understands that the State Police Command has arrested the masquerade for defying the government’s directive on which banned social gatherings due to the outbreak of Coronavirus disease in the country.
It was reported that the masquerade had challenged the security men when they attempted to stop a said ‘Egungun festival’ in the community.
The masquerade allegedly confronted and threatened to deal with the police officers who tried to send away his followers.
Reporting the incident on Monday, the spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi revealed that the masquerade was arrested Ijeja area of Abeokuta.
Abimbola noted that residents had complained to the police about the gathering which attracted many people in celebration of a masquerade festival.
He said: “Upon the report, policemen from Ibara Division moved to the area and warned the people to disperse but the masquerade confronted the policemen and threatened to deal with them if they insist on dispersing his followers.
“The masquerade was subsequently arrested and taken to the station where he was warned to be law-abiding before he was released to a reliable surety”, he added.
Meanwhile, the Ooni of Ife, Enitan Ogunwusi, has listed some herbs, leaves, and vegetables found in Africa as capable of treating the coronavirus.
The monarch further shared a video explaining how the herbs can be used to cure the deadly virus.
