COVID-19: IGP Warns Against Illegal Detention, Unnecessary Visit To The Station

The spokesperson of the Nigerian Police Force, DCP Frank Mba in a statement on Sunday, March 22 disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, has warned Nigerian on the current pandemic to avoid unnecessary visits to police stations, including those on official visits excepts when it is paramount.

Naija News understands that Adamu urges officers to practice personal safety precautions, adding also that illegal arrest and detentions of suspects must not be found with the officers and that detention must be limited also to the barest minimum.

The statement reads: “The IGP, while urging officers to observe personal safety measures, further directs the Zonal AIGs and Command CPs to ensure that cases of unnecessary arrests and detention of suspects are not condoned” the statement read in part.

“He reiterates that detention of suspects must be reduced to the barest minimum and that only very serious cases such as terrorism, armed robbery, homicide and other non-bailable offences should warrant detention.”
