Presidential Election Tribunal: What Buhari Told Court About Justice Bulkachuwa

President Muhammadu Buhari has told the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting that he was not aware that Aliyu Haidar Abubakar, the biological son of Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, campaigned for him during the electioneering period.

Naija News understands that President Buhari said he only got to know that Abubakar was his supporter after he read a copy of the motion the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

This online news platform recalls that the PDP and the former Vice President had filed the motion to disqualify Justice Bulkachuwa from presiding over the five-man panel tribunal that is hearing petitions challenging the declaration that he won the February 23 presidential election.

Killings: Buhari Meets Katsina Gov In Aso Rock

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday night met with Governor Aminu Masariof Katsina State over the recent killings by bandits in the state. The meeting which was held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the president, Garba Shehu on twitter.

Shehu revealed that Buhari had summoned the governor to an urgent meeting on the security situation in the State.

Fayemi Elected Chairman Nigerian Governors Forum

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State on Wednesday emerged the chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) for a tenure of two years.

Naija News learnt that Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State was also elected as vice-chairman of the forum.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State was believed to be a contender for the top position, however, he dropped his ambition and nominated the Ekiti State governor.Governors from the south had expressed a desire for the rotation of the chairmanship of the forum, which was previously held by Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State.

Fayemi and Tambuwal’s tenure will expire in 2021, but they can seek re-election for another two years.

The President of the Appeal Court of Nigeria, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, has been in the media in recent weeks over her sitting and heading of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

Justice Bulkachuwa on Wednesday withdrew from the panel following an application filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar alleged possible bias against her.

The President of the Court of Appeal, and Chairman of the five-member panel of the Presidential Election Tribunal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, says she recused herself from the tribunal in order to test the position of the law.

Naija News had reported earlier that Justice Bulkachuwa recused herself from the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Wednesday, May 22.
