Breaking: Imo Court Releases 114 IPOB Women

Police Claim Release Came As A Result Of Instruction From The State Governor

114 women suspected to be members of the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra on Friday evening, has been released by a high court in Owerri.

Recall that the women were remanded by a magistrate’s court in Owerri on Monday and Thursday respectively, after they were arrested and arraigned by the Police for demanding to know the whereabouts of missing IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kalu.

Ejiofor Uche, the lead counsel to the women, had filed a bail application, which was not opposed, as the police had no representation in court.

The court had granted the bail application, and freed the women unconditionally, their release lead to wild jubilation on the court premises and within Owerri, the state capital.

Theaddus Okay, the Police prosecutor, while speaking with Punch stated that the Police had no representation because the matter had been referred to the state ministry of justice for legal counsel and decision.

He said that the Police had no powers in whatever decision that was taken subsequently.

Dasuki Galadanchi, the state Commissioner of Police, stated that the release of the women was sequel to an instruction given to him and the state commissioner for justice by the state governor, Rochas Okorocha.
