Thunder Strikes In Ogun, Kills Three

Amidst a heavy downpour yesterday, thunder struck three men, killing them instantly in the Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State.

Naija News learnt that they were struck to death around 3pm on Thursday by thunder during a downpour accompanied by thunderstorm.

The victims, who were on the same motorcycle when the rain started, had reportedly  got off from it to seek shelter around the Equity (Gateway) Hotel in the town for the rain to subside.

Sources said they were struck to death simultaneously by thunder where they stood.

Another person, who was with them, was said to have fled the scene.

One of the sources said, “The incident is not ordinary as death by thunder is usually as a result of punishment for wrongdoing.”

While sympathizers  gathered at the scene to catch a glimpse of the victims, Policemen in the town also visited the scene, but refused to remove the corpses and stayed away from a bag belonging to one of them.

A resident said the policemen did not touch the corpses because the corpse of anyone killed by thunder could not be buried until after some traditional rites were done.
