Labour Party chairman, 7 others suspended in Anambra for endorsing Obiano.

The Anambra chapter of Labour Party has announced the immediate suspension of its chairman, Mr. Uche Ugwuoji, and seven others for allegedly collaborating to endorse the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano’s re-election under the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in the forthcoming November 18 governorship election in the state.

The Labour Party Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr. Eddy Okoye, announced this on Wednesday in Awka.

Okoye, who named the others affected by the suspension as; Messrs Ejike Onuora, Alex Obi, Bertram Enukora, Ifeanyi Mbagwu, Greg Mmerube, Longinus Nnajiofor and Okecima Anizoba, described their actions as “selfish, illegal and a demonstration of anti-party behaviour.’’

“The Labour Party hereby dissociates itself from the purported endorsement of Governor Willie Obiano by some people masquerading as the party’s executives in Anambra.

“The affected members have been suspended immediately for insubordination, gross indiscipline and anti party activities,’’ he added.

In his reaction, the suspended chairman rejected the claim that he endorse Obiano, calling the decision of the party as unfair.

“The allegation is not true; we have our own candidate; how can we endorse another party’s candidate?

“This is frivolous, baseless and handiwork of people who want to start another crisis in Labour Party,” Ugwuoji said.
