A former administrative secretary of the defunct Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU), Alhaji MK Ahmed, has reportedly died.

Reports obtained by Naija News on Monday morning revealed that the prominent Kano State politician died last Saturday, leaving behind thirty (30) children and grandchildren.

One of the children of the deceased, Suleiman Ahmed, confirmed the sad development to newsmen stating that their father passed away at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) during the weekend.

Alhaji Ahmed is survived by a wife, 30 children and many grandchildren, says the report.

Naija News understands that MK Ahmed founded the Nigerian Pilgrims Welfare Association in 1961 and became its secretary. He also authored the book “Chronicle of NEPU/PRP”.

The deceased worked in various government and private organisations such as the defunct Electricity Corporation of Nigeria, ECN; National Electric Power Authority, NEPA; Arab Brothers, among others.

He was a recipient of the national honour of Member of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, MFR, in 2003.

Ahmed had in 2018 during an interview with Daily Trust, reminisced on how he was first appointed as the press secretary of NEPU after working closely with the late Mallam Aminu Kano as his personal secretary before becoming the administrative secretary of the party in 1961.
