Manchester United Completes Signing Of Raphael Varane

Manchester United have completed the signing of France international Raphael Varane from Real Madrid on a four-year deal.

United had earlier agreed on a fee in the region of £41m until June 2025.

The 28-year-old has won three La Liga titles and four Champions League titles with Real Madrid in his 10 seasons in Spain.

Varane first played as a professional footballer at Lens in France, then moved to Real Madrid where he played 360 games.

He made 79 appearances for France, making four appearances at Euro 2020.

United have long been tracking Varane, whose contract expires at Real Madrid next summer.

Former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson had tracked the player since he moved to Madrid and Jose Mourinho also tried to sign him during his time at Old Trafford.

Varane is United’s third signing of the year, after they completed a deal for Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and goalkeeper Tom Heaton on a free transfer.

He is expected to partner Harry Maguire at the heart of United’s defense.

With Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly settling for a spot on the substitute bench.
