Troops Arrest Fleeing Boko Haram Suspect In Plateau

A Boko Haram member who reportedly opted out of the deadly sect has been nabbed by Operation Safe Haven, a military section of the Plateau State Special Task Force.

According to information made available to newsmen on Tuesday by the Commander of the STF, Maj. Gen. Augustine Agundu, the suspected member of the Islamic sect had confessed that he used to be part of the deadly group, and has spent about 3-years with them, but that he shunned the group after an unpleasant experience.

Speaking further about the arrest, Gen. Augustine revealed that the suspect whose name was given as Umar Musa Tello, was arrested by the troops of the Operation Safe Haven while loitering Zaruwan village in Bassa Council Area of Plateau.

It was confirmed that the suspect had fled from Damagun village in Yobe State due to the ongoing operation of Operation Lafiya Dole.

“The terrorist also claimed that his uncle, one Ibrahim, invited him to Abuja to start menial jobs to make ends meet. He said he has denounced the Boko Haram Terrorist Group,” said the commander.

“Tello furthermore explained that some other fighters have equally absconded and dispersed around the FCT Abuja and some went to Plateau State. So we have been able to extract salient information that would guide expert exploitation of his extent of involvement with the Boko Haram Terrorist Group.”

Meanwhile, Naija News had reported earlier that 1,400 repentant Boko Haram suspects have been rehabilitated and released into the society by the military in Borno State.

The Borno State government disclosed that this was done under the ‘Operation Safe Corridor’ programme.
