Ibi Residents React To Wadume’s Arrest

The re-arrest of suspected Kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Bala Wadume on Tuesday by operatives of the Nigeria Police has elicited reactions from residents of Ibi.

Naija News recalls the NPF Spokesperson, Frank Mba, disclosed on Tuesday that Wadume was re-arrested in the late hours of Monday in his hideout at Layin Mai Allo Hotoro area of Kano State.

Ibi, located in Adamawa State is the hometown of Wadume, the suspected multi-millionaire kidnapper.

Following his re-arrest by the IGP Intelligence Response Team, following his initial escape few weeks back when he was arrested by Police operatives on covert mission during a saga which saw some police officers killed by soldiers, some residents of Ibi have been expressing their views on what his re-arrest portends for them and their community at large.

A resident, Yahaya Maikifi Ibi, lamented that Wadume’s arrest is no good news to the people of Angwan Motori in Serkin Kudu area of Ibi in Taraba State because of his generosity which will be missed in the community.

“He was a benevolent philanthropist that did not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, religion or tribe.

“Wadume is constructing a mosque in our area. The project is almost completed and his arrest will stall the project,” he said.

Another resident, Michael Adi, said the projects been handled by Wadume will suffer now that he is in custody and the people of the community will be negatively affected.

“I wish you were here to see the mood of the people. Nobody is happy over the development.

“Let’s be truthful to ourselves, Hamisu has done well with the people of Ibi and beyond.

“For some of us here, he has done well by eliminating poverty out of some families,” Adi said.

However, a former caretaker chairman of Ibi Local Government Council, Adasho Johnson, has a different view, submitting that Wadume’s arrest will bring peace to the community as the siege placed on the community by security agencies will be lifted.

Adasho said the “indiscriminate arrest of the people of Ibi over Wadume’s escape” made the people live in fear.

“Now that the man in the eye of the storm has been arrested, we will have a relief.

“We will also wait in good faith to know the true state of the allegations against him.”
