1. Buhari Sets Date To Swear In Ministers-Designate

Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s President, has set Wednesday, August 21, 2019, to swear in Ministers-Designate. Naija News reports that this was contained in a terse statement issued on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, by the Presidency on Tuesday, August 6.

2. DSS Seeks Court Order To Detain Sowore For 90 Days

The Department of State Services (DSS), has sought a court order to detain Omoyele Sowore, the convener of Revolution Now Movement, for 90 days. Naija News recalls that Sowore, who was the flagbearer of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the February 2019 presidential election, was arrested by operatives of the DSS on Saturday, August 3.

3. Akeredolu Bars Officials From Public Comments

Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has directed government officials to stop making forthwith, public comments or statements on a ‘matter relating to land dispute.’ This comes after the inauguration of the Panel to probe the crisis which erupted over a land dispute between the people of Araromi Obu and Ikale (Ago Alaye).

4. Students Of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Killed By Collapsed Bridge

Following the collapse of a bridge due to heavy rainfall along Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi state some students have been reported dead. Report from the institution states that “The bridge linking the classes with the hostels collapsed as a result of yesterday’s (Monday) torrential rain while students were returning to the hostels”.

5. Reno Condemns EFCC For Not Arresting President Buhari Over WAEC Result

A former media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has compared President Muhammadu Buhari to Yahoo Boys while reacting to the controversies surrounding his West African Examination Council certificate. Omokri condemned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for arresting Yahoo Boys who use fake details to extort their victims but overlooks Buhari, whom he claimed uses a picture to deceive Nigerians that he has a WAEC/GCE Certificate.

6. Release Sowore Immediately – PDP Chairman Tells Buhari

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, Uche Secondus, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to order the immediate release of Omoyele Sowore, detained convener of Revolution Now Movement. Naija News reports that the PDP Chairman made this call in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, northern Nigeria on Tuesday when he paid a condolence visit to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri following the demise of his father, Umaru Badami.

7. 2019 Elections: INEC Reveals How Many Court Cases It Is Dealing With

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has blamed political parties in the country for the barrage of court cases it has to deal with regarding the 2019 election. According to the chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the electoral umpire has been dragged to court more than 1,600 times in relation to the 2019 general elections.

8. #RevolutionProtest: Sowore Speaks From DSS Custody, Tells Nigerians What To Do

Omoyele Sowore, convener of the #RevolutionNow protest has spoken out on his arrest by the Department of State Services, (DSS) and the Revolution Now protests. Sowore assured his followers that he remains unshaken in his beliefs and expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their support. He maintained that his intention is to lead a peaceful protest against bad governance in the country, further calling for the release of arrested protesters.

9. PDP’s Suspension, Family Upbringing – Reps Minority Leader

The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu has said his suspension by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was part of family upbringing. He made this known while speaking to newsmen after visiting former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida.

10. Falana Warns FG Against Charging Sowore To Court

Femi Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has warned against filing charges against Omoyele Sowore, stating that the government will be making a huge mistake if it does so. Recall that officers of the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested and have detained Sowore, who is the convener of #RevolutionNow movement since Saturday after he was accused of threatening public peace and safety.
