The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) have fined Doma United ₦5.25 million and ordered the club to play their next three home matches behind closed doors after alleged security breaches and supporters’ misconduct during their 1-1 draw with Kun Khalifat FC in Gombe on Saturday.

The sanctions followed the Matchday Nine fixture at the Pantami Stadium, where the league accused the Savannah Tigers of failing to provide adequate security and allowing unauthorised persons into restricted areas.

The NPFL also cited hostile behaviour by Doma United supporters towards match officials and members of the visiting team. It further alleged that a Kun Khalifat official was involved in gross misconduct after the match.

The league imposed a ₦3m fine on Doma United for repeated failures to provide adequate security at their home matches, while another ₦1 million penalty was issued over the alleged hostility towards match officials.

The club must also pay ₦250,000 to cover the medical expenses of Kun Khalifat head coach Obinna Uzoho, who sustained an injury during the incident.

In addition to the sanctions against Doma United, the NPFL recommended that the match commissioner be demoted to a lower division over alleged dereliction of duty, inadequate supervision and insufficient reporting of the incident.

Doma United have 48 hours from the date of the disciplinary notice to appeal the sanctions.

The league warned the club to improve its security arrangements and educate supporters on acceptable conduct, adding that further breaches could attract more severe punishment.

If the sanctions stand, the Savannah Tigers will play their next three home fixtures without spectators as the league seeks to prevent further incidents at the club’s home ground.
