Popular Nigerian blogger Linda Ikeji has weighed in on the growing controversy over a luxury handbag spotted with the wife of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, Margaret.
Naija News reports that in a viral video online, Margaret Obi was seen carrying a handbag that many social media users identified as a Hermès Kelly 35 in Malachite.
According to some netizens, the handbag is listed on the Hermès website for £131,938.81, which they estimated at ₦237 million.
The reported price has triggered mixed reactions, with some Nigerians criticising Margaret for carrying such an expensive item, while others argue that she has the right to buy whatever she can afford.
Reacting to the controversy online, Linda dismissed the widely circulated ₦250 million price estimate.
In a post on her Instagram page, Linda, known for buying high-end designer pieces, told her followers to calm down, stressing that she knows the bag’s likely cost.
She wrote, “Relax people… this is not a N250m bag…. If it was, you think she would be traveling with it? I know how much these bags cost, because I have a few. Relax!”
Meanwhile, Peter Obi has reacted to the backlash surrounding his wife’s expensive designer bag.
Peter Obi has responded to backlash over his wife, Margaret Obi, for the expensive designer bag she was recently seen carrying.
The former governor said his wife has her own business and income, arguing that he should not be held responsible for what she chooses to buy with her money.
Obi said he does not even know the prices of the bags and shoes his wife uses, stressing that she has always managed her own affairs.
The former governor also defended his record in managing public funds, saying his main concern was ensuring his family’s personal activities did not interfere with the handling of government resources.
