Four Bandits Killed As Security Operatives Foil Zamfara Attacks
Joint security operatives, supported by local community members, have repelled coordinated attacks by bandits in parts of Zamfara State, killing four suspected criminals and recovering a motorcycle.
Naija News understands that the operations took place in Birnin Magaji and Bungudu Local Government Areas on Thursday.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement, saying several fleeing bandits also sustained gunshot injuries during the encounters.
Abubakar said the first incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. when bandits invaded farmlands on the outskirts of Nasarawa Godal town in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area.
The attackers reportedly opened fire on farmers in an attempt to create panic and inflict casualties on residents working on their farms.
According to the police spokesperson, police personnel, supported by community members, quickly mobilised to the scene and confronted the attackers.
He said the operatives engaged the bandits in a gun battle and forced them to retreat into nearby forests.
Abubakar added that traces of blood were found along the escape routes used by the fleeing bandits, indicating that some of them sustained serious injuries.
“However, three members of the community were hit by gunfire during the incident and were immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment,” he said.
In a related incident, another group of bandits attacked Galmar Hannu village in Kekun Waje District of Bungudu Local Government Area around 1:30 p.m., shooting indiscriminately and causing panic among residents.
The Joint Security Forces under Operation Fansan Yamma, stationed in the area, responded swiftly to distress calls and engaged the attackers in a fierce battle.
Abubakar said the security operatives overpowered the bandits, killing four of them, while others escaped into nearby forests with suspected gunshot wounds.
He added that one motorcycle suspected to have been used by the fleeing bandits was recovered at the scene.
The Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, commended the officers and members of the affected communities for their bravery and cooperation.
He said the support of residents contributed significantly to the success of the operations.
Bello urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies.
He assured the public that ongoing intelligence-driven operations would continue to deny criminal elements any safe haven across the state.
