Enzo Fernandez Back For Manchester United Clash After Chelsea Suspension

Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez is set to return for Chelsea this weekend after serving an internal suspension, but doubts linger over the midfielder’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

Naija News reports that Enzo Fernandez, 25, sparked controversy during the international break after giving three interviews while on duty with Argentina, where he spoke about a desire to one day live in Spain’s capital. The comments reignited links with Real Madrid and led to a two-match ban agreed by head coach Liam Rosenior and the club hierarchy.

Fernandez’s representative, Javier Pastore, attempted to have the suspension reduced, but the appeal failed. The Argentine midfielder subsequently missed the Blues’ 7-0 FA Cup semi-final win over Port Vale and the more damaging 3-0 Premier League defeat at home to Manchester City.

In his final interview, Pastore hinted that Chelsea’s struggle to qualify for the UEFA Champions League could affect his client’s future. Another defeat followed, leaving the London side four points behind Liverpool FC in the race for fifth place.

Despite the fallout, there is little regret internally over the punishment. Rosenior said the final “hurdle” before confirming the sanction was consultation with the club’s leadership group, including captain Reece James, Moises Caicedo and Levi Colwill.
