Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina Rally Behind Super Eagles Ahead Of Morocco Semi-final

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong and defender Ola Aina have sent messages of encouragement to the Nigerian national team ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final clash with Morocco.

In videos shared on the official Super Eagles 𝕏 account on Wednesday, both players expressed confidence in the team’s ability to reach the final, praising the squad’s performances and urging the players to stay united.

Troost-Ekong, who led Nigeria to the 2023 AFCON final, spoke of his pride in the team’s progress and his belief that victory against the host nation is within reach.

“My brothers, the day is here and I cannot tell you how excited I am to watch you guys beat Morocco tonight. I’m more than proud to have been a part of your team and what you guys are achieving now,” he said.

The centre-back highlighted how the team had grown stronger with each match, particularly noting the improvements in midfield balance and player rotation.

“It’s been game after game, getting better and better. The rotation is working now,” he added.

Troost-Ekong predicted that defeating Morocco would pave the way for Nigeria to lift the trophy, and encouraged the players to savour the semi-final experience.

“If you win this game against Morocco, you guys are going to lift the trophy. Stick together, enjoy the moment. These moments only come sometimes in life. Enjoy it because it’s going to be some of the best moments of your life, stick together and fight together,” he said.

Ola Aina also expressed his admiration for the team and coaching staff.

“I just want to wish you guys all the very best in the semi-finals. To all the players, the technical crew, the manager, coaches, physios and doctors, everyone that are there is doing a fantastic job,” Aina said.

The Nottingham Forest defender added: “It’s been amazing seeing you guys play the way we know you can play. I’ll be rooting for you from home, sending you all my prayers and well wishes man.”

The Super Eagles of Nigeria and Morocco clash will kick off at 9 p.m. tonight, January 14.
