The match also carries added significance for Poland captain Robert Lewandowski. The veteran forward heads into the game with 89 goals in 166 appearances for his country and needs just one more strike to become only the second European men’s international footballer to reach the 90-goal milestone.
Lewandowski, Poland’s all-time leading scorer, is expected to start after featuring for only the opening half of his side’s 2-0 defeat to Ukraine. Poland coach Jan Urban has already confirmed changes to his line-up, with goalkeeper Kamil Grabara set to replace Marcin Bułka and midfielder Piotr Zieliński returning to the starting team.
Tonight’s fixture marks only the second senior meeting between the two countries. Their previous encounter came in March 2018 during preparations for the FIFA World Cup in Russia, when Nigeria secured a memorable 1-0 win in Wrocław courtesy of a Victor Moses penalty.
