Super Eagles Of Nigeria’s Onuachu, Ndidi Sound Warning Ahead Of Poland Clash
The Super Eagles head into tonight’s international friendly against Poland brimming with confidence, with striker Paul Onuachu insisting Nigeria have what it takes to compete with any side in world football.
Éric Chelle’s men arrived in Warsaw fresh from successfully defending their Unity Cup title last weekend.
Nigeria will face Poland at the PGE Narodowy Stadium before taking on Portugal in another high-profile friendly in Lierra next Wednesday.
Onuachu believes the recent run of results has shown the strength within the squad and is confident the team can continue to impress against top opposition.
“We have the quality to play against any team in the world and hopefully we are going to show it against Poland and Portugal,” Onuachu told the Super Eagles media.
“Sadly we are not going to the World Cup because we have world-class players, but that’s football.”
The forward’s confidence comes as FC Basel winger Philip Otele linked up with the squad in Warsaw, taking the number of players available to Chelle to 21.
Otele played in both of Nigeria’s matches at the Unity Cup tournament and provided an assist in the 3-0 victory over Jamaica in the final.
The 27-year-old is, however, expected to start on the bench against Poland after arriving late in camp. He has earned three caps for Nigeria since making his debut against Jordan in March.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has stressed the importance of maintaining the team’s strong momentum, even as the coaching crew continues to build for the future.
Nigeria are currently unbeaten in their last five outings, recording four wins and a draw during that period.
Ndidi acknowledged the long-term project under Chelle but insisted that results remain important.
“Of course, it’s about winning, but development also counts. A match against such a top rival as Poland will be a good test for our vision for the future,” Ndidi was quoted by przegladsportowy.onet.
Kick-off at the PGE Narodowy Stadium is scheduled for 7.45pm Nigerian time.
