Super Eagles Of Nigeria, Super Falcons’ Camp Swell Ahead Of June Friendlies

Nigeria’s preparations for this week’s international friendlies gathered pace earlier today, June 2, with midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru arriving in Warsaw ahead of the Super Eagles’ showdown with Poland.

The Lazio star became the latest player to report to camp, taking the number of players in Warsaw to 19.

Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe confirmed Dele-Bashiru’s arrival as head coach Eric Chelle continues to assemble his squad for Wednesday’s friendly against Poland.

The fixture will mark only the second meeting between both countries. Their first encounter came in 2018 when Nigeria won a friendly game 1-0 thanks to Victor Moses’ second-half penalty under former coach Gernot Rohr.

Nigeria head into the game hoping to build on recent momentum, while Poland are looking to bounce back after a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Ukraine. The loss extended the hosts’ winless run to two matches.

After facing Poland, the Super Eagles will travel on to take on Portugal in another friendly encounter. Nigeria’s last meeting with the Portuguese ended in a heavy 4-0 defeat in 2022.

Players already in camp include Maduka Okoye, Francis Uzoho, Arthur Okonkwo, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, Terem Moffi, Paul Onuachu, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, Semi Ajayi and Dele-Bashiru.

Meanwhile, preparations have also begun in the Super Falcons camp in Ikenne ahead of two friendly matches against Senegal.

Veteran forward Asisat Oshoala is among the first players to report, alongside defender Shukurat Oladipo and midfielder Kafayat Shittu.

Head coach Justine Madugu expects all 23 invited players to arrive before the team’s first official training session on Tuesday evening.

The nine-time African champions will host Senegal at the Remo Stars Stadium on Friday before both sides meet again at the same venue next Monday.

The friendlies form part of preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Nigeria have been drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, Zambia and tournament debutants Malawi, while Senegal will face hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya in Group A.

The tournament will also serve as the African qualifying competition for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The top four teams will secure automatic qualification, while the fifth-placed side will enter an intercontinental play-off for a place at the finals.
