Atlético Madrid Open Door To Ademola Lookman Exit Amid Premier League Interest
Atlético Madrid are reportedly willing to consider offers for Nigeria international, Ademola Lookman, just months after securing his signature from Atalanta in one of the standout deals of the winter transfer window.
According to reports in Spain and Turkey cited by Fotospor, the Spanish club could be prepared to part ways with the forward for a fee in the region of €60m this summer.
Lookman joined Diego Simeone’s side in February in a deal worth around €35m plus add-ons and signed a contract running until 2030.
However, despite scoring four La Liga goals and adding strikes in both the Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League, the 28-year-old has reportedly found it difficult to settle into Atlético’s demanding tactical system.
The reports claim Simeone has approved the club’s plan to listen to offers as part of a wider squad overhaul ahead of next season.
The development is expected to spark interest across Europe, particularly in the Premier League, where several clubs are already keeping a close watch on the situation.
Arsenal are among the clubs linked with the Nigerian attacker, with manager Mikel Arteta understood to be an admirer of his ability to operate across multiple attacking positions.
Liverpool have also been credited with interest after previously monitoring him during his time in Italy, while Manchester United are said to be assessing potential options to strengthen their wide attacking areas.
Interest is not limited to England. Turkish giants Fenerbahçe are expected to renew their pursuit after coming close to signing Lookman before Atlético completed the deal in January. French champions Paris Saint-Germain have also been mentioned as possible suitors.
In Italy, Inter Milan and Juventus are both believed to be admirers of the former Atalanta star. However, Atlético’s valuation and Lookman’s reported annual net salary of around €6m could complicate any potential move for Serie A clubs.
Lookman enjoyed a highly successful spell at Atalanta, scoring 55 goals and cementing his place in the club’s history with a memorable hat-trick in the Europa League final. Before moving to Italy, he featured for Charlton Athletic, Everton, Fulham and Leicester City during his time in English football.
With the summer transfer window approaching, the future of one of Nigeria’s most sought-after forwards is once again set to become a major talking point.
