Super Eagles Of Nigeria Set Up 2026 Unity Cup Final Clash With Jamaica
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Jamaica in the final of the 2026 Unity Cup after the Reggae Boyz defeated India 2-0 in Thursday’s second semifinal at The Valley.
Goals from Courtney Clarke and Kaheim Dixon sealed the win for the Caribbean side, setting up a repeat of last year’s final against the Super Eagles.
Jamaica arrived as favourites against India and showed their class early on. Clarke opened the scoring after just eight minutes, calmly finishing a swift counterattack past goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh.
The Reggae Boyz continued to dominate and nearly doubled their lead before the break, but Gurpreet produced a string of fine saves to keep India in the game.
India improved after halftime and thought they had equalised through Chhangte, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. Jamaica eventually punished them late on when Dixon produced a composed finish to seal victory.
The win means Jamaica will now get another shot at Nigeria, who beat Zimbabwe 2-0 earlier in the week thanks to a brace from debutant Femi Azeez.
The Super Eagles were far from convincing against Zimbabwe, but Azeez stole the spotlight with an impressive first appearance for the national team. The Millwall forward scored twice and looked dangerous throughout the encounter.
Nigeria coach Eric Chelle also handed debuts to Arthur Okonkwo, Obinna Igboke and Chibueze Oputa, with all three turning in assured displays.
Saturday’s final promises to be another tense affair between two sides familiar with each other in the Unity Cup. Jamaica remain dangerous despite the absence of Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey, whose pace and creativity are usually central to their attack.
The Reggae Boyz rely heavily on quick transitions and clinical finishing, qualities they displayed against India. Nigeria, meanwhile, are expected to improve after Chelle admitted his players did not fully follow instructions in the semifinal against Zimbabwe.
The Super Eagles have enjoyed the upper hand in previous Unity Cup meetings with Jamaica and will be aiming to maintain that dominance while chasing a fourth tournament title.
This year’s competition also carries added importance after receiving FIFA Tier 1 recognition, meaning results will count towards the FIFA world rankings.
Nigeria, currently ranked 26th in the world and third in Africa, could gain valuable ranking points with another victory on Saturday.
