Super Eagles Of Nigeria Enter 2026 Unity Cup Final After Win Over Zimbabwe

The Super Eagles of Nigeria booked their place in the final of the 2026 Unity Cup after a comfortable 2-0 win over Zimbabwe in London earlier today, May 26.

The Super Eagles controlled the game from start to finish at The Valley, with debutant Femi Azeez stealing the spotlight with a brilliant brace on his first appearance for Nigeria.

The forward needed only five minutes to announce himself. Azeez found space inside the box and calmly finished to hand the Super Eagles an early lead as Nigeria settled quickly into the game.

Zimbabwe struggled to cope with Nigeria’s pace and movement, while the Super Eagles continued to dominate possession and create openings throughout the first half.

By the midway point of the opening period, Nigeria remained firmly in control with Zimbabwe offering little threat going forward.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with the Eagles dictating the tempo and keeping their opponents pinned back inside their own half.

Nigeria eventually doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute after a sharp attacking move involving Terem Moffi. The striker burst into the penalty area before squaring the ball for Azeez, who calmly slotted home his second goal of the night.

The Super Eagles later introduced Tosin Oyedokun and Owen Oseni in the closing stages as they comfortably saw out the result.

The win sends the Super Eagles into the Unity Cup final, where they will face either Jamaica or India. The defeated teams from both semi-final fixtures will meet in Saturday’s third-place playoff.

Naija News reports that the 2026 Unity Cup is being staged in London from May 26 to May 30 and features Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Jamaica and India.

Before Tuesday’s encounter, Nigeria had never lost to Zimbabwe in seven previous meetings across all competitions, recording four wins and three draws.
