Eric Chelle Names Super Eagles Squads For Unity Cup, European Friendlies

Head coach Eric Chelle has unveiled two Super Eagles squads for the Unity Cup mini-tournament in London and next month’s high-profile friendlies in Europe.

Eric Chelle selected captain Wilfred Ndidi, goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, defenders Bruno Onyemaechi and Igoh Ogbu, plus forwards Moses Simon, Akor Adams and Terem Moffi for the Unity Cup title defence.

The tournament will take place at Charlton Athletic Stadium between 26 and 30 May. Nigeria face Zimbabwe in the semi-final on 26 May.

Victory would send the holders into the final against either Jamaica or India, who meet a day later at the same venue.

Chelle handed first call-ups to goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, defenders Emmanuel Fernandez, midfielders Raphael Onyedika, Tochukwu Nnadi and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, and striker Rafiu Durosinmi.

Several home-based players were also rewarded, including goalkeeper Michael Atata and midfielders Aderemi Adeoye, Ayobami Junior and Tosin Oyedokun.

Attention then shifts to Europe, where the Super Eagles will test themselves against Poland and Portugal. Nigeria face Poland at the PGE Narodowy Stadium on 3 June before travelling to Leiria to meet Portugal at the Estadio Dr Magalhães Pessoa on 10 June.

Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Paul Onuachu headline the 24-man squad for the friendlies alongside Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Frank Onyeka.

Nigeria have already been drawn with Madagascar, Tanzania and Guinea-Bissau in the race for next summer’s Africa Cup of Nations, making the June fixtures key preparation.
