Ndidi, Simon Among Six Doubtful For Nigeria’s Unity Cup Clash Against Zimbabwe
Nigeria could be without six players when they face Zimbabwe in the semi-final of the 2026 Unity Cup at The Valley in London on Tuesday.
Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon and Akor Adams are among those struggling to make the game after arriving late at the team’s camp in London.
The other players in doubt are Bruno Onyemaechi, Raphael Onyedika and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro.
Only 20 players were available for selection as coach Éric Chelle prepared his side for the encounter on Monday evening.
Midfielder Samson Tijani boosted the squad numbers after arriving in camp on Monday. Tijani earned his first call-up in six years, having last featured for Nigeria in a friendly defeat to Algeria in October 2020.
Nigeria begin their title defence against Zimbabwe in South London at 7:30 p.m. later today, May 26, while the other semi-final between Jamaica and India will be played a day later.
The winners of both matches will meet in the final on May 30 at Charlton Athletic’s stadium.
Recent meetings between Nigeria and Zimbabwe indicate another close contest. Both sides settled for 1-1 draws in their last two World Cup qualifying clashes.
Nigeria’s recent results also suggest another close affair could be on the cards.
The Super Eagles have drawn three of their last four internationals in regulation time, with their last 90-minute defeat coming against Egypt in a friendly in December 2025.
Zimbabwe are on a three-match winning streak in international friendlies and have not lost a game since November 2025.
