Nigeria Overpower Jamaica As Super Eagles Retain Unity Cup Title

The Super Eagles of Nigeria continued their impressive run in the Unity Cup after defeating Jamaica 3-0 at the Valley Stadium in London to emerge champions of the 2026 edition.

Naija News reports that the victory handed Nigeria another Unity Cup title in what was a repeat of last season’s final between both countries. Unlike last year, when the Eagles needed penalties to secure the trophy, Nigeria’s B team settled the contest in regulation time with a commanding performance.

Alhassan Yusuf scored twice, while captain Terem Moffi also found the net as Nigeria secured a fourth Unity Cup crown.

The result also maintained Nigeria’s perfect record in the tournament, with the Super Eagles remaining the only country to have won the competition since its inception.

Nigeria made a bright start and went ahead as early as the third minute through Yusuf, who capitalised on a mistake by the Jamaican defence and goalkeeper.

The midfielder reacted quickly after the goalkeeper pushed a header back into the danger area, finishing emphatically to give Nigeria a 1-0 lead.

The goal was a major moment for Yusuf, as it marked his first goal for the national team in 10 appearances.

Jamaica, who have qualified for the World Cup, tried to respond after going behind, but Nigeria remained organised and dangerous going forward.

The Super Eagles doubled their advantage in the 58th minute when captain Moffi rose to nod home a cross from Femi Azeez.

The goal gave Nigeria firm control of the match and reflected their dominance over the Reggae Boyz, who struggled to contain the pace and movement of the Nigerian side.

Yusuf added further gloss to the scoreline in added time with a brilliant solo effort to complete his brace and seal a convincing win for the Super Eagles.

His second goal underlined the gulf in class between Nigeria’s Team B and Jamaica’s World Cup-bound squad.

With the brace, Yusuf not only helped Nigeria to another title but also announced himself strongly in the national team setup.

The victory also extended Nigeria’s unbeaten run against Jamaica to six matches.

The Super Eagles, who finished third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, have now won three of their meetings with the Reggae Boyz in regular time, further strengthening their dominance in the fixture.

Saturday’s win will also serve as a confidence boost for the Nigerian team as they continue their summer football schedule.

Nigeria will continue their summer engagements with friendly matches against Poland and Portugal.

Naija News reports that the Super Eagles are scheduled to face Poland on Wednesday in Warsaw before taking on Portugal in Leiria on June 10.

The matches are expected to give the coaching crew another opportunity to assess the squad as Nigeria continues preparations for future international assignments.
