Super Falcons Camp Opens As Madugu Names 23 For Senegal Friendlies

Players of Nigeria’s women’s national team, Super Falcons, are expected to begin arriving in Ikenne, Ogun State, this week after head coach Justine Madugu unveiled a 23-player squad for two international friendlies against Senegal.

The matches, scheduled for June 6 and June 8 at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne, form a key part of Nigeria’s build-up to the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade headlines the squad announced by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Sunday, May 31, along with goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and veteran striker Asisat Oshoala.

Also retained are experienced midfielder Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene, who recently returned to the team after a three-year absence, and forwards Francisca Ordega and Gift Monday.

Madugu has also rewarded several players with recalls. Belarus-based forward Blessing Nkor returns to the fold for the first time since featuring in a friendly against France in November 2024, while Turkey-based midfielder Kafayat Shittu earned another invitation after an impressive club campaign.

Defender Rofiat Imuran is back in the squad after missing national team action since the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, while home-based goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi and defender Sikiratu Isah are among the other players included.

The squad also features defenders Oluwatosin Demehin and Glory Ogbonna, midfielders Halimatu Ayinde, Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini, as well as forwards Folashade Ijamilusi, Joy Omewa and Omorinsola Babajide.

Title-winning trio Christy Ucheibe, Shukurat Oladipo and Babajide also secured places in the team after successful seasons with their respective clubs.

According to a statement by the NFF’s Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, the friendlies will give the coaching crew another opportunity to assess the squad ahead of the continental showpiece.

The Super Falcons, 10-time African champions, have been drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, Zambia and Malawi, while Senegal will face hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya in Group A.

The tournament will run from July 25 to August 16 in Morocco and will also serve as the qualification competition for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
