Super Falcons Set For UK Training Camp Ahead Of 2026 WAFCON

The Super Falcons of Nigeria will head to the United Kingdom later this month for a short training camp as preparations gather pace for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The camp, billed for May 23 to 28, is expected to include at least one friendly match as the team works to stay competitive outside an official FIFA window.

According to Savid News, the trip forms part of efforts by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to keep the squad active after a quiet March window when planned friendlies failed to materialise.

Some regulars are set to miss the trip due to club commitments but are expected to rejoin the squad during the next FIFA window from June 7 to 14.

Head coach Justine Madugu will use the UK camp to widen his selection pool and test fresh options as Nigeria prepare to defend their continental crown.

“Super Falcons will embark on a training tour of the United Kingdom later this month as preparations intensify for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON),” Savid News reported.

Speaking to Brila FM, Madugu revealed the struggle to secure friendly matches. “The fact is that most teams are not ready to play us. I know a lot of efforts have been made to reach out to different countries,” Madugu said.

He added that resistance often comes from rival coaches rather than federations. “The federation may agree at first, but when the coaches are consulted, they refuse because they don’t want to face the Super Falcons.”

Nigeria remain Africa’s most decorated women’s side after lifting a record 10th WAFCON title in Morocco last year.
