Poland Coach Jan Urban Pleased After Draw Against Super Eagles Of Nigeria

Poland head coach Jan Urban expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance after they battled back twice to earn a 2-2 draw against Super Eagles of Nigeria in an international friendly in Warsaw on Wednesday night.

Despite failing to secure victory at the 58,000-capacity Stadion PGE Narodowy, Urban said his side showed enough quality and character against a strong Super Eagles team.

“The scenario from the previous matches repeated itself, we played, the opponent scored,” Urban was quoted as saying by laczynaspilka.pl.

“But I wasn’t concerned because we played well. And we played well after the goal. It was a good match against a good team.”

Poland’s response pleased the coach after his team recovered from going behind on two occasions during the entertaining game.

Nigeria scored first in the 23rd minute through Terem Moffi, who finished from close range after the visitors capitalised on one of their few clear openings.

The hosts responded positively and levelled before the break through Kacper Potuski after creating several chances.

The Super Eagles looked set to leave Warsaw with a win when Paul Onuachu converted a penalty in the 76th minute to restore Nigeria’s lead.

However, Poland refused to surrender and grabbed a deserved equaliser deep into stoppage time when defender Przemysław Wiśniewski unleashed a superb strike beyond goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.

Wiśniewski later insisted the result reflected Poland’s performance, particularly after creating more chances than their opponents.

The defender also pointed to a stronger defensive display compared to last week’s 2-0 defeat to Ukraine.

“Nigeria didn’t have many scoring opportunities in the first half, apart from scoring. We analyzed the match against Ukraine closely and will try to draw conclusions from Nigeria as well.

“We conceded two goals, but overall we were better defensively,” Wiśniewski said after the game.
