Poland Snatch Late Draw Against Super Eagles Of Nigeria
The Super Eagles of Nigeria were denied victory deep into stoppage time as Poland fought back to earn a 2-2 draw in an entertaining international friendly earlier today, June 3.
The Super Eagles made the brighter start and took the lead in the 25th minute when Moses Simon finished off a move created by Terem Moffi. Poland responded just before the break, with Kacper Potulski heading home in first-half added time after being picked out by Nicola Zalewski to make it 1-1.
Nigeria manager Eric Chelle rang the changes at half-time, introducing seven substitutes as he looked to freshen up his side. The Super Eagles regained control in the second half and were rewarded in the 77th minute after a VAR review resulted in a penalty. Paul Onuachu stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to restore Nigeria’s advantage.
The visitors appeared on course for victory as the clock ticked into added time, but Poland had the final say. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Pawel Wiśniewski scored from close range following an assist from Nikodem Wojtuszek to rescue a draw for the hosts.
The closing stages were tense, with Raphael Onyedika and Robert Lewandowski both shown yellow cards in the 80th minute. Despite Nigeria’s strong attacking display and periods of dominance, the late equaliser ensured the spoils were shared.
The result extends Nigeria’s six-game unbeaten run under coach Eric Chelle.
