CAF Probes Post-Match Chaos After Nigeria’s Win Over Algeria As Super Eagles Shift Focus To Morocco

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has opened an investigation into the heated scenes that followed Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Algeria in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final clash in Marrakech.

According to Africa Soccer, CAF is currently studying reports submitted by match officials, stadium security and accredited media personnel to establish what transpired after the final whistle.

Second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams sealed Nigeria’s place in the semi-finals of the AFCON. However, the result sparked angry reactions from the Algerian camp, who accused the officiating team of bias.

Tempers flared immediately after the match, with Algerian players reportedly confronting referee Issa Sy and his assistants. Stadium security officials were forced to step in to prevent the situation from escalating further.

Disorder also spread to the stands, where sections of Algerian supporters attempted to force their way past security barriers. There were reports of damage to parts of the stadium as officials worked to restore calm.

While CAF’s disciplinary process gathers pace, the Super Eagles have already turned their attention to the semi-final showdown against hosts Morocco.

Nigeria will train behind closed doors on Monday as preparations intensify for the highly anticipated encounter. The session is scheduled to take place at the Complexe Mohammed VI in Rabat, with kick-off set for 6.00 pm local time.

The team and their officials are expected to arrive in Rabat from Fès later in the day and will be accommodated at the Rihab Hotel. Members of the media will be granted access to the opening 15 minutes of training on Tuesday.

Nigeria and Morocco are due to face off on Wednesday at the Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium, with a place in the AFCON final at stake.
