Nigerian singer, Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has disclosed why he hid his mother’s identity for years.

Naija News reports that Mayorkun, during an interview in a podcast with Taymesan, said being known as the son of famous Nollywood actress, Toyin Adewale, comes with fake attention and favouritism, which he didn’t want anywhere.

The singer noted that while at the university, he was intentional about not letting people know about his mother.

He said, “Growing up, my brother and I didn’t like the fact that our mom was a popular actress because we wanted freedom, but with her fame came fake attention and all.

“I hated being treated differently, not because you like me but because I am Toyin Adewale’s son.

“Even in my university, people didn’t know she was my mother for four years. I was intentional about this.

“My mum brought food to me at school once, and a girl saw her. I quickly ran to her to get what she came with just so no one else saw her.”

Mayorkun Speaks On Rift With Davido

Meanwhile, Mayorkun has opened up on his relationship with former record label boss, Davido, after exiting Davido Music Worldwide (DMW).

Naija News recalls that Mayorkun came into the spotlight in 2016 after he released a cover of Davido’s ‘The Money’ single which featured Olamide and was discovered by the singer on X (formerly Twitter).

Davido signed him to his record label, DMW, where he released his debut single, ‘Eleko’ and became a famous star. After two years, Mayorkun won the highly coveted ‘Next Rated’ category at ‘The Headies’, solidifying his stardom.

In 2021, Mayorkun parted ways with Davido’s record label, and since then, there have been speculations that the duo are not on good terms.

However, Mayorkun, in a recent episode of the Tea With Tay podcast hosted by actor, Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh, better known as Taymesan, said he has one of the best relationships with Davido, contrary to popular opinion.

The ‘Mayor Of Lagos’ crooner said fans think they are not cool because he doesn’t flaunt his relationship with Davido on social media.
