Anthony Joshua’s Former Trainer Weighs Ex-Client Against Deontay Wilder

Anthony Joshua‘s former trainer Robert Garcia claimed that his former client can defeat any opponent in the heavyweight division if he is strong mentally.

Garcia trained Joshua for his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, but the Nigerian-born British boxer ended up losing the bout and contributed to why Garcia was fired.

Currently, the attention is on Joshua’s fight with Otto Wallin on December 23 in Saudi Arabia. On the same card, his rival, Deontay Wilder will face Joseph Parker.

If the two former world champions prevail over their little-known opponents, there might be a fight between the two fierce competitors in 2024.

Their potential bout will still be a big one in the heavyweight class and is sure to generate a lot of interest even though there are no world titles on the line.

Since Joshua and Wilder are well-known for their powerful punches, the fight ought to be exciting to football enthusiasts.

Robert Garcia discussed his thoughts on the fight with Little Giant Boxing, noting that Joshua’s natural athleticism gives him every chance to overcome Wilder.

Should Joshua and Wilder square up in the ring, Garcia’s main concern is whether the former Olympian will be psychologically ready for such a challenging opponent.

“Look, a fighter like Anthony Joshua, he’s just natural, he’s a natural athlete, people say he focuses too much on weights but he doesn’t even do weights,” Garcia said.

“He’s just a natural muscular dude. He runs a lot. The skills he has, the power he has, could beat anybody.”

Garcia added, “For him, it’s more about being mentally prepared. If he’s mentally prepared he’s unstoppable.

“When it comes to talent, he’s probably the best out there. But if somebody has doubts mentally, then there’s gonna be a problem, but if he’s able to correct that, he could beat any of those heavyweights out there.

“Of course (I give him a shot against Wilder.) Wilder’s also had some bad losses, Fury beat him up pretty badly. You don’t know if Wilder is the same anymore, a jab could knock him out. That happens in boxing. One knockout could change your whole career.”
