Argentina head coach, Lionel Scaloni has revealed that he decided not to invite Manchester United left winger, Alejandro Garnacho, to his team due to the player’s current form.

Alejandro Garnacho made his international debut in the colours of Argentina on June 15, 2023, which means he wasn’t part of the Argentine team that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Since he made his international debut in June, the 19-year-old left-winger has played only three times for the reigning world champions.

Garnacho was expected to return to the team ahead of the November international break in which Argentina will play the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay on November 17 and against Brazil on November 22.

Ahead of the games, reporters asked the 2022 World Cup winning coach why he left out Garnacho, Scaloni said: “Ale’s non-call up is due to a form issue. During the last calls, he did not have minutes and we have to think about human aspect as well too”.

“He’s on our radar and will be part of our plans”.

Alejandro Garnacho has been playing regularly from the bench at Manchester United. He has made 16 appearances and scored a goal in all competitions so far this season.

Garnacho joined Manchester United from the Atletico Madrid youth team on October 2, 2020, for just £465,000. He gained promotion to the club’s senior team on July 1, 2022.
